The Life I Almost Missed

There are moments in life that completely change the way you measure success. For me, surviving a coma was one of them.

There are moments in life that completely change the way you measure success. For me, surviving a coma was one of them. Before it happened, success looked a lot like it does for many people. Accomplishments. Goals. The next project. The next opportunity. Always looking ahead. Afterward... I started paying more attention to the moments in between. The Small Things Became the Big Things There's a strange clarity that comes after surviving something life-changing. You stop taking ordinary days for granted. A conversation with family. Laughing with friends. Watching a sunset. Going for a hike. Hearing someone's voice. Drinking coffee in the morning. Things that once felt routine suddenly become gifts. Not because they changed. Because I did. Time Became More Valuable None of us knows how much time we have. Most of us live as if we'll always have another chance. Another conversation. Another vacation. Another birthday. Another "I'll do it tomorrow." My coma reminded me that tomorrow is never guaranteed. That realization isn't meant to create fear. It's meant to create appreciation. The Pursuit of Purpose I don't want to simply exist. I want to build things that matter. Stories that help people. Conversations that inspire. Communities that bring people together. Whether that's through Coma Dreams... The Coach Bergen Show... Fight Plan Pro... Or simply encouraging one person who's having a difficult day. Purpose became far more important than recognition. Success Looks Different Now People often ask what changed after the coma. Almost everything. But one change stands above the rest. I stopped asking: "What can I get out of life?" And started asking: "What can I leave behind?" That's a completely different way to live. Legacy Isn't About Fame When people hear the word "legacy," they often think about celebrities. Champions. Hall of Famers. People everyone remembers. I don't think legacy works that way. Legacy is how you make people feel. It's the people you encourage. The kindness you show. The opportunities you create. The stories you tell. The lives you help improve. Most legacies are built quietly. One person at a time. Why I Keep Creating Sometimes people ask why I continue building new projects. Why a podcast? Why a film? Why Fight Plan Pro? The answer is simple. Because I was given another chance. And I don't want to waste it. Every project is another opportunity to help someone. To connect people. To create hope. To leave the world just a little better than I found it. If You're Reading This... Maybe you've experienced your own life-changing moment. Maybe you haven't. Either way... Don't wait for tragedy to remind you what matters. Tell people you love them. Start the project. Take the trip. Make the phone call. Forgive someone. Forgive yourself. Live today in a way that your future self will be grateful for. Final Thoughts Surviving my coma didn't make me fearless. It made me grateful. Grateful for another morning. Another conversation. Another chance to build. Another chance to serve. Another chance to keep writing my story. Because life isn't measured only by how long we live. It's measured by what we do with the time we've been given. And if there's one lesson I hope Coma Dreams leaves with people, it's this: Don't wait until life almost slips away before you begin truly living it.
