Inside the Dreams: Living Between Reality and Imagination

When people hear the word coma, they usually imagine darkness. That wasn't how I experienced it.

When people hear the word coma, they usually imagine darkness. Silence. Nothing. That wasn't how I experienced it. Instead, it felt like stepping into a world where reality and imagination no longer had clear boundaries. Time didn't exist the way it normally does. Dreams felt real. Real memories blended with impossible moments. And when I eventually woke up, figuring out what had actually happened wasn't as simple as opening my eyes. A Different Reality One of the strangest parts of a coma isn't necessarily being unconscious. It's that your mind doesn't always know it. The world inside can feel completely believable. People appear. Conversations happen. Places seem familiar. You experience emotions that feel just as real as they do in everyday life. While your body lies in a hospital bed, your mind may be somewhere entirely different. When Dreams Feel Like Memories After waking up, one question kept coming back. Was that real? Some moments felt too vivid to dismiss as dreams. Others slowly unraveled as I realized they couldn't have happened. The line between memory and imagination became blurred. It wasn't just remembering dreams. It was trying to understand which version of reality I had actually lived. Waking Up Didn't Answer Everything Most people assume waking up means everything immediately makes sense. It doesn't. Recovery isn't only physical. It's mental. Emotional. You begin piecing together what happened while everyone else already knows the story. Friends and family can explain the facts. But only you know what you experienced inside your own mind. Trying to connect those two worlds isn't always easy. Why Coma Dreams Exists One of the reasons I wanted to create Coma Dreams was because I realized how difficult it is to explain this experience. How do you describe something that doesn't follow normal rules? How do you explain memories you're not completely sure happened? How do you put feelings into words when reality itself seemed uncertain? Rather than trying to make every moment fit neatly into a box, I wanted the film to capture what that uncertainty actually felt like. It's Not About Having All the Answers People sometimes ask whether everything in Coma Dreams really happened. The truth is more complicated. Some moments come directly from experience. Others represent emotions that are difficult to describe literally. The goal was never to recreate every detail exactly as it happened. The goal was to recreate what it felt like. Sometimes emotions tell the truth more accurately than facts alone. Reality Is More Fragile Than We Think Going through an experience like this changes the way you think about life. We often assume reality is constant. Predictable. Reliable. Then something happens that reminds you how quickly everything can change. One day you're making plans. The next, your life is unfolding in ways you never imagined. That realization stays with you. A Story About More Than Dreams Despite its title, Coma Dreams isn't simply about dreams. It's about hope. Confusion. Recovery. Family. Resilience. It's about learning that even when life no longer makes sense, there are still people fighting for you. And sometimes, that's enough to keep moving forward. Next Chapter In the next article, I'll talk about something even more important than the dreams themselves. The people. Because while I was fighting a battle I couldn't fully understand, there were people outside that hospital room refusing to give up on me. Their story deserves to be told too.
