Should Artem Belakh Still Get a UFC Contract?

The Ultimate Fighter 34 | Opinion For many fighters, The Ultimate Fighter is the last chance to earn a UFC contract. For others, it's simply another opportunity. After Episode 4, an interesting question emerged: Should Artem Belakh still receive a UFC opportunity despite being eliminated? If you only watched his fight against Mehemmedeli Osmanli, you might think the answer is obvious. Look at his body of work, however, and the conversation becomes much more interesting. One Fight Doesn't Tell the Whole Story Mixed martial arts is unique. One mistake can erase months—or even years—of momentum. A perfectly executed game plan can fall apart in seconds. That doesn't suddenly make a great fighter average. It means they lost one fight. Before arriving on TUF 34, Artem Belakh had already built one of the strongest résumés in the bantamweight tournament. A Proven Champion Unlike many prospects entering The Ultimate Fighter, Belakh wasn't trying to prove he belonged at a high level. He already had. He entered the competition as the reigning LFA Bantamweight Champion, one of the most respected regional titles in mixed martial arts. Winning an LFA championship isn't easy. Many former champions have gone on to become successful UFC fighters. That championship alone demonstrates that Belakh has already competed against quality opposition and knows what it takes to perform under pressure. Daniel Cormier Saw Something During the TUF draft, Daniel Cormier made Artem his first bantamweight selection. That wasn't an accident. Cormier has spent years competing against—and coaching—the best fighters in the world. He recognized something in Belakh's skill set. Throughout fight week, Team Cormier built a strategy around Artem's striking because they believed it gave him the clearest path to victory. Even during the opening exchanges, that belief appeared justified. The game plan was working. The outcome changed only after Belakh repeatedly moved away from it. One Bad Night Every fighter has one. Champions lose. Future Hall of Famers lose. Future UFC champions lose. The question isn't whether someone has suffered a defeat. The question is what they've shown throughout the rest of their career. Belakh's résumé still includes championship success, high-level experience, and victories over quality opponents. One submission loss doesn't erase those accomplishments. More Than Just a Fighter Episode 4 also showed fans something that doesn't appear on a professional record. Character. Whether it was the professionalism he displayed throughout fight week, making weight despite a difficult cut and interruptions to Team Cormier's preparation, or the respect he showed toward his wife during the memorable pool scene, Belakh consistently carried himself like a professional. His fellow competitors noticed. Several of them commented on what a genuinely good person he was. Organizations don't only sign talented fighters. They sign professionals. Fight Plan Breakdown Talent gets fighters noticed. Consistency gets them opportunities. Character helps them keep those opportunities. The UFC ultimately evaluates much more than wins and losses. Skill. Marketability. Professionalism. Coachability. Experience. How a fighter responds after adversity. Belakh's next performance may ultimately matter more than his last one. The Verdict Did Artem Belakh accomplish what he came to TUF 34 to do? No. He wanted to win the tournament and earn a UFC contract. That goal ended in Episode 4. But does one loss erase everything that came before it? Absolutely not. He remains an LFA champion. He remains a talented bantamweight. He remains someone respected by coaches, teammates, and opponents. Whether the UFC signs him immediately or later in his career, Artem Belakh has already demonstrated that he possesses many of the qualities organizations look for. Sometimes a tournament ends. A career doesn't. What do you think? Should Artem Belakh still receive a UFC contract despite his elimination from TUF 34?
